BrewHQ’s new headquarters is a homebrew wonderland and playground

Exciting news for homebrewers in the Atlantic region! BrewHQ, located at 80 Thornhill Drive in Dartmouth, NS, held their Grand Opening and Open House on November 19, 2022. This is their first brick and mortar location, after previously being an online-only shop, and features a unique concept which is part homebrew shop, part brewery, part brewing school, and part beer gathering place.

You’ll find plenty of interesting stuff at BrewHQ, including a fully-stocked brewer’s retail store, a grain mill in a Doctor Who-style police box, a ferment-at-home service with 8 all-grain brewing stations (featuring Grainfather G30 and G70’s), and a large refrigerated cooler filled with multiple varieties of hops, dry, and liquid yeasts. There is also a licensed area which serves hand-pumped Real Ale from the on-site brewery.

Not sure where to start? Sign up for their “Brew School” (currently on Saturday mornings, with an expanded schedule coming soon) for a one-day guided course with the BrewHQ brewer. You’ll get equipment training, a pint of Real Ale, 5 arcade tokens, and the wort to take home to ferment when you’re done. After you’ve taken the course, you can use the brewing stations on other days throughout the week.

As we all know, a big part of brewing is waiting. So why not spend some of that time playing pinball and arcade games right on-site? You can also grab a pint and a snack, and use one of their PCs to work on your recipes, look up hop profiles and substitutions, and use other online brewing tools.
